tournament and day tripping
Still a sloooow pick for the billfish, but we did catch at least one marlin each day for the last 4 days, including the three tournament days of the Triple Crown. Decent showing, we ended up int he top half of the fleet. Yesterday we missed the marlin, but did catch 3 sails, 4 tunas and a nice dorado

report
I rode along for a couple of days this week. Had a good time with the tunas day 1, also caught a sail and missed several more. The next day was pretty bleak. We missed the tuna bites and the only billfish bite of the day, probably a marlin. Yesterday was better wtihout me on the boat, a marlin, 3 sails, a dorado and several tunas.

much, much better the last couple of days
better with the water......nice, clean blue water shoving in from the west. better with the billfish, not double digits, but everyone is getting their turn with shots at multiple blue marlin in a day and several sails. better with the tunas, they got bigger, we had one closing in on triple digits yesterday and left them biting. dorado keep coming, including some jumbos.

caught a yellowfin today
no we were not the high boat and thank goodness we don't measure success by the numbers but it has been a long time since we have seen DOUBLE DIGITS of anything.....now you know why we say that right? We had three boats chartered today, no one caught a billfish, most caught the tunas pretty good, we just caught one. Down the dock today there was a black marlin/blue marlin/sailfish grand slam. There have been several black marlin around if you are willing to put the time in. Dorado can wipe you out one day and hard to find one the next. Billfish have been even more scarce. What's going on? Who the heck knows? That's fishing. Cycles. Currents. El Nino. La Nina. Full Moon. Whatever. Name your excuse but as Capt Greg Voliva always told me: "It is what it is". And you make the best you can with what you've got. Every day is different and spending an hour with a thousand spinner dolphins ain't a bad way to spend part of the day. Humpbacks are migrating through with calves and there is some "Blue Planet" stuff out there to see. We saw some of that bait ball mayhem that included roosterfish yesterday. The inshore fishing has saved a lot of trips this year. Is it gonna get better? Of course. Maybe these crazy showers and clouds we are having will cool the water a bit and bring in another wave of billfish. Will keep you posted, but we did catch a tuna today.
